Dr. Obi Ekwenna, MD, FACS

Dr. Obi Ekwenna is an internationally recognized transplant and robotic surgeon who has shattered barriers and set new standards in minimally invasive surgery. Board-certified in both urology and abdominal transplant surgery in the United States, Dr. Ekwenna holds the distinguished honor of being the first Black surgeon globally to perform robotic kidney transplantation—a groundbreaking achievement that exemplifies his pioneering spirit.
Currently serving as Vice Chairman of the Department of Urology & Transplantation and Associate Professor at the University of Toledo, as well as President of the Urologic Society of Transplant and Renal Surgeons (USTRS), Dr. Ekwenna brings a unique blend of clinical excellence, academic leadership, and groundbreaking surgical innovation to Robomed. His expertise spans robotic-assisted donor nephrectomy & kidney transplantation, and advanced minimally invasive surgical techniques in urology.
